  • Do you offer signed books?
Yes, for USA mailing addresses only. You can shop at my direct store here. This helps support me more than supporting retailers like Amazon and Barnes & Noble, so thank you!
  • Do I have to read the books in order?
The Secrets Trilogy should be read in this order: Ordinary Secrets Captured Immune Book 3 (Title coming soon!) If you go in any other order, you will be severely confused. You have been warned. :)
  • How do you pronouce Arella?
    ah-rel-lah
  • Why do you include a playlist? How should I use it?
Music and lyrics are a great way to capture a chapter's vibe or a character’s feelings. How you could use the playlists: Listen to the songs before, during and/or after the chapter it belongs to. Listen to the playlist after you have finished the book. Have the playlist on in the background while you read. (Props to the people who can do this. My brain could never, lol.) Skim the playlist to see if there are any songs you recognize. Ignore the whole damn thing. 😆
  • Who was your favorite character to write?
Liz, specifically her relationship with Trey. I just adore how close they are and how Liz stands by Trey no matter how stupid or crazy he acts. Liz is the best friend everyone needs. Trey comes in second because he was the most complex to write. I love his character arc and seeing his growth from book 1 to book 3.
  • Which character are you most similar to?
My personality is most like Javina’s. She tells it like it is, and we have the same vernacular. If I saw a hot man look sad, I, too, would say something like “I’m about to go out there and offer him a blow job just to wipe that godforsaken frown off his face.” (Line from Scrubbed Mind, chapter five.)
  • Will there be more books in this world?
In the words of my fellow Minnesotans, "You betcha!"
  • I noticed some subtle Taylor Swift references in your books. Are they intentional?
What if I told you none of it was accidental?
  • Will you be writing any books outside of this world?

  • How do you pronounce your last name?
Lam is a common last name of Cantonese speakers of Chinese descent. It’s pronounced LAHM. Most commonly, people will say LAMB (like the animal). I’ll answer to both. :)

  • Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Books, movies, real life experiences, and the voices in my head.
  • What is your writing routine?
I don’t have a specific time that I write. I just fit it into my day between all my other life stuff. Sometimes it’s during the ten minutes I’m waiting for dinner to finish in the oven. Other times I’m writing at two in the morning for a few hours while everyone else is asleep. I don’t wait for the perfect moment to write, otherwise I would never finish a book.
  • What does your writing process look like?
Here's a general overview: LOG IDEAS: Ideas for plots, scenes or characters get noted on my phone. (Time spent: a few days to years) WRITE: I usually begin with either the meet-cute or the scene that inspires me the most, then continue until the book is complete. (Time spent: a few weeks to years) SELF-EDIT: I like to edit as I write, then edit the completed manuscript over and over until I feel like I’m no longer editing and just reading my own book. (Time spent: many months to years.) BETA: I send the completed and self-edited book out to my beta readers in 3 to 4 rounds and work in their feedback between rounds. (Time spent: a few months) PROFESSIONAL EDITING, COVER DESIGN, BLURB WORK, AND PROOFREADING: All through Enchanted Ink Publishing. PUBLISH.
  • What advice can you share with other writers?
ADVICE ON WRITING: Get educated on common mistakes writers make. YouTube is a great place to learn more about cutting out filter words, how not to start a book, ways to write powerful descriptions, etc. Make everything count! Every word, every sentence, every scene, and every chapter must matter. If you’re keeping a scene or character just because you like them, but they add no value to moving the plot, cut it. Yes, it’s hard, but necessary for the good of your book. Utilize a program that will read your book back to you. Hearing your book read aloud may help you find mistakes or funky dialogue you didn't catch with your eyeballs. ADVICE ON GETTING FEEDBACK: Learn the difference between alpha readers and beta readers. Depending on who you ask, you may get different answers. From my experience, though, alpha readers receive a very early or unfinished draft that may include spelling/grammar/punctuation errors. It’s best to find other writers as alphas because they can give you feedback in writing terms about your plot, character development, world building, etc. Feedback from alphas may include big rewrites and/or cuts. Beta readers should receive a completed and polished draft free of most spelling/grammar/punctuation errors. It’s best to find readers of your genre (who you do NOT know) as betas because they can give you unbiased feedback based on their experience reading similar books in the market. Feedback from betas may include small tweaks and edits for clarity. Learn what to implement and what to discard. If only one reader is saying they don’t like a scene while everyone else says they love it, keep the scene. If you’re receiving echoing feedback, it’s worth considering. Have a growth mindset. Too often, writers ask for feedback when they’re really just looking for a pat on the back. Have a mindset of growth and curiosity so you may fully accept constructive feedback. Note that I said constructive feedback. Negative feedback is comments like “This scene is boring” or “I hate this line” and they offer no reason or suggestion for improvement. How are you supposed to make it better if you don’t know why something’s not working? Constructive feedback is comments like “This scene isn’t exciting me. Here’s why: ___” or “This line is confusing. Do you mean ___ or ___? Could you reword it to clarify?” ADVICE ON EDITING Learn how to self-edit. Your beta readers and professional editor will thank you for it! Take a step back. After you self-edit, take a break from that book (go work on another one), then come back to it a few weeks/months later. You’ll be surprised how many changes you’ll make! Hire a professional editor. Not your friend of a friend who’s an English major. Find a legit editor. Working on a low budget? There are tons of good editors out there offering low rates and/or payment plans. You’ve just gotta find them! I went through Enchanted Ink Publishing for my editing and would highly recommend this team. ADVICE ON PUBLISHING Make a good first impression! The cover is the FIRST thing readers will see, so get a good one! Especially if you’re self-publishing, don’t allow your book to look self-published. I got my covers through Enchanted Ink Publishing. Have a killer blurb! This is usually the second thing readers see, so make your book sound irresistible to the type of reader your book is for. If you need help with your blurb, I recommend *bet you didn’t see this one coming* Enchanted Ink Publishing. Marketing is key! People can’t buy a book if they don’t know it exists. GENERAL ADVICE Don’t take advice from someone who doesn’t have direct experience in what you’re working to achieve. If you want to be taken seriously as an author, then you need to treat being an author seriously. Your book will never be everybody’s cup of tea. So just make the tea you want, then offer it to the people who like that tea too! For more snippets of writing advice and/or behind the scenes stuff, join my newsletter!
